INTRODUCTION:
This article is said about grid.In our life all things is grid.A grid is a consistent system for placing objects. The grid is the most vivid manifestation of the will to order in graphic design. Units are the basic building block of a grid. They are all uniform. Columns are the grouping of units that create the visual structure of the page. They are not necessary uniform. So in the life all things have grid. And in the graphic design the grid and layout is more important. As one designer we always use the grid and layout. So now I want to show the gird how to use in the design. And I will show what is the grid and what is the layout and my design for grid.
WHAT IS GRID?
Grid is a structure made up of vertical and horizontal lines which is used as a guide line for lay-outing. Designers need grid system as a referencing lines for making there designs more aligned, focused and beautiful for the viewers. A good design will be always the combination of both grid system and lay-outing.Combination of number of vertical and horizontal lines make column. One column of a grid system in a work space is called a unit.
A typographic grid is a two-dimensional structure made up of a series of intersecting vertical and horizontal axes used to structure content. The grid serves as an armature on which a designer can organize text and images in a rational, easy to absorb manner.
Types of Grids:
There is really no limit to the grid layouts that can be created. Common types include equally sized two, three and four-column grids with a header across the top, as well as a full-page grid of squares. From these building blocks, the variation of column widths, borders, page size and other features of the grid will lead to unique page design. When starting a project or even just practicing, try using a grid system to help position the elements of your design on the page.
THE GRID SYSTEM:
The grid system in graphic design is a way of organizing content on a page, using any combination of margins, guides, rows and columns. It is commonly seen in newspaper and magazine layout with columns of text and images. One grid, or a collection of grids, may be used across an entire project to achieve a consistent look and feel. In a finished product, the grid is invisible, but following it helps in creating successful print and web layouts.
WHAT IS GRID SYSTEM
In the late nineteenth century Europe, especially the United Kingdom, began to graphic design in the field of art segmentation.Pete in the late nineteenth century in Europe, especially the United Kingdom, began to graphic design from the split in the field of fine arts . Pete Mondrian is known as the father of graphic design. He is an artist, but he inspired the use of the grid Today, advertising, printing and page layout using modern grid system.

GRID SYSTEM USE IN THE LIFE:
Grid systems can be used in everyday life to map out or plan. A farmer may use a grid system map to plan where and what type of vegetables to plant. Many farmers use grid systems in the actual garden made of recyclable materials to prevent land erosion. Landscapers commonly use plastic, grass or concrete grid systems when planning and creating a design. And some of the architectural design need use grid system . From these I can know our life need grid system everywhere .

WHAT IS LAYOUT ?
Master plan or blueprint of a printed or published work (such as an advertisement, book, magazine, newspaper, or website) that lays out the arrangement of its different graphic elements (such as body copy, colors, headlines, illustrations, scale). It establishes the overall appearance, relative importance, and relationships between the graphic elements to achieve a smooth flow of information and eye movement for maximum effectiveness or impact. Often alternative layouts are prepared to explore different arrangements before the final layout is made for printing or production.
Layout is the sizing, spacing and aligning of contents in a particular work space. Designers composite and layout a design using grids
Layout belongs to animation special nouns, but also rare in the work, the nature of the work on close to Chinese “composition”, only in some theater version of work may be adopted, such as multi-level design background, make each layer background movement speed is different, can show vivid realism sense of distance.
LAYOUT DEPENDENT ONE THE GIRD ABOUT ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE:
ADVANTAGE:
The main idea behind grid-based designs is a solid visual and structural balance of web-sites you can create with them. Sophisticated layout structures offer more flexibility and enhance the visual experience of visitors. In fact, users can easier follow the consistency of the page, while developers can update the layout in a well thought-out, consistent way. However, it’s quite hard to find your way through all the theory behind grid systems: it is not easy at all. Some important notions and related key-facts can help to learn basics and keep essential techniques in mind.
Make design tobe simple and have some coordinate can tobe reference.
Make viewer can to cash the important point fast. And understand what you want to express.
DISADVANTAGE:
The main criticism of space grids is their cost, which can be high when compared with alternative structural systems. This is particularly true when space grids are used for short spans. The definition of a short span is very dependent on the system under consideration but less than 20 to 30m can probably be considered short. Often a direct comparison is not made like with like.
Grid size and depth as well as the grid configuration can have considerable influence on the perceived density of the structure.
Make design style have a little same. And make designer can not have more image.
TIME BASED:
A time base is usually a fixed frequency or a fixed period in time used as a comparison against which other frequencies or timed events are calculated. A time base can be established to meet your requirements for purposes of measurement.
Time based meaning likes moving image . it’s a measurement systems to design a grid . this is good for image layout of movie design ,etc . But this is limit for image of detail .
PRINT BASED:
Print based may be magazine format , news paper format , etc . these layout regulation is from company when they need . this is may be like official news need formal , excellent . But no design or more effect in it .
WEB BASED MEDIUMS:
Web based is like all website page can show us format. In China have QQ qzone .In this web you can chang the format what you want. This is a very interesting little design.
THE DESIGNER USE THE GRID:
Bailey, who was 38 in 2009,was born in Yorkshire, the son of a carpenter and a window dresser for Marks and Spencer. He graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Masters degree in 1994 and later received an honorary fellowship from the College in 2004.From 1994 to 1996 he was the Womenswear Designer at Donna Karan and Senior Designer of Womenswear at Gucci in Milan from 1996 to 2001. While in Milan, he met and began dating Geert Cloet, brand designer for Miu Miu. He split his time between his home in Milan and England. In 2004, Cloet was diagnosed with brain cancer. He and Bailey moved to Yorkshire to be near Bailey’s family. Cloet died the next year. He joined Burberry in May 2001 as creative director and became chief creative director in November 2009.Bailey is credited with transforming the fortunes of the company. In 2008, Bailey, alongside Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts, set up The Burberry Foundation, committed to dedicating global resources to help young people realise their dreams and achieve their goals and potential through their power and creativity. The Burberry Foundation invests in select charities focused on supporting young people in the key cities in regions where the majority of Burberry employees live and work, and where they are able to participate in volunteer roles with Burberry charity partners on the ground.Bailey also oversaw the design and development of the new 160,000-square-foot (15,000 m2) Burberry Global Headquarters at Horse ferry House in London and the newly opened 68,000-square-foot (6,300 m2) Burberry Americas US Headquarters at 444 Madison in New York.
MY DESIGN USE THE GRID:
DESIGN 1:
(This is my design, and the idea is from the China bird’s nest Olympic stadium.I use the tree twig make it look like the bird’s nest. And I do this one show the 3D grid.)
DESIGN CONCEPT:
1. Firstly I think about another idea to make one 3D gird design. The idea is LED.
LED is named Light-emitting diodes.A light-emitting diode is a semiconductor light source. LEDs are used as indicator lamps in many devices and are increasingly used for other lighting. Appearing as practical electronic components in 1962, early LEDs emitted low-intensity red light, but modern versions are available across the visible, ultraviolet, and infrared wavelengths, with very high brightness.
Light-emitting diodes are used in applications as diverse as aviation lighting, automotive lighting, advertising, general lighting, and traffic signals. LEDs have allowed new text, video displays, and sensors to be developed, while their high switching rates are also useful in advanced communications technology. Infrared LEDs are also used in the remote control units of many commercial products including televisions, DVD players and other domestic appliances. LEDs are also used in seven-segment display.
I want to use a paper to make some little stars. And I want to scale design in white board and paper stars spell pattern sticking out.Make one 3D grid model. But next I cancel this idea.Because this idea do not have new meaning.Just let the LED move on the paper. So we become invalid this idea.
2.Next I look the tree twig and think about the bird’s nest next I think the China’s Olympic stadium.Beijing National Stadium, officially the National Stadium, also known as the bird’s’ Nest (鸟巢 Niǎocháo), is a stadium in Beijing, China. The stadium was designed for use throughout the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.
The national stadium is located in the central position of the Olympic park buildings, terrain slightly uplift. It’s like a giant container. Ups and downs of the fluctuation of base eased of container size, appearance and gave its dramatic arc. The appearance of the stadium is purely structure, elevation and structure is the same. Between the various structural elements support each other and converge into a grid shape – like a woven from the branches of the bird’s nest. To meet Olympic Games stadium all the functional and technical requirements at the same time, the design has not been the affinity of too much emphasis on construction technology of large span structure dominated and digital screens. Stadium the space effect of the new radical, but concise and simple, which created the unprecedented alone for the 2008 Olympics landmarks.
DESIGN 2:
(This picture is I take the photo for my design. And I choose this picture is because this grid can see the line clearly. Also can see the grid clearly. So I choose this picture.)
(This picture is I use Illustrator draw the line ,show the grid use the red line.I use the red colour is because the red is conspicuous and auspicious.)
This is I do the second design,I print the picture and cat it next make it like this picture.I do this is want to see the grid how to change.
This is the wall show our work, and I make the picture become big.
DESIGN 3:
SKETCHES:
(This is I do the sketch.)

(This is we do the little model. And this we doing process. )
(finally work).
This our group work,we firstly do a small one to see the effect.
This our do the big one one the wall.We use the coloured ribbon.Show another grid.
